Anna & Julian

Yesterday we had our rehearsal in Stockholm with Anna and Julian.

This wedding is going to be made in heaven. Anna & Julian's fun and energetic personalities are equally matched and they are completely suited for each other - being around this couple for just 5 minutes will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Anna is also a wedding photographer and is just recently back from a destination wedding in Rome. It is an honour to be given the opportunity to photograph a colleagues wedding ... perhaps a little scary as well.

Their wedding will be held at Parken III a small oasis found on Södermalm, Stockholm. We are all hoping for good weather in which case their ceremony will be held outdoors in the park. In the early part of the evening they will have friends playing in a Jazz band, later the disco ball will probably see some action as the party gets under way.

St George's Day

Today is St. George's day and all over England the Cross of St George will be flown to celebrate England’s Patron Saint.
This picture taken at the weekend shows the Ritz Hotel on Piccadilly.

Aletta & Chris's Wedding

Ceremony: Iron Mongers Hall, Barbrican, London.
Reception: RAC Club, Mayfair, London.
Brides Wedding Dress: Jenny Packham.
Brides Jewellery: Jo Thorne.

Alette & Chris were married on Saturday, they had a great fun wedding.
The civil ceremony was held in the Iron Mongers Hall, a fantastic building that has also been featured in one of Harry Potter's films. Whilst Aletta got ready at the RAC Club Chris and his best men got ready at the Hall, they had good fun and the banter and jokes were coming fast - you could tell that these friends had known each other a long time.

Aletta looked beautiful and the magnificent surroundings set the scene as she and her father entered the hall proceeded by her bridesmaids (Sister ... and wedding cake maker) and 2 young nieces.

Two London Routemaster buses and a London taxi waited outside the hall, it was an impressive sight to see them lined up decorated with white ribbons. Whilst the busses took their guests on a sightseeing tour we took the taxi to a couple of locations for some portraits.

The reception was held at the 100 year old RAC Club on Pall Mall, another wonderful location.
One guest wore a Kimono and another wore a Kilt it reflected that their guests had come from many countries to celebrate their wedding. Many Swedes were also at the wedding and in their honour part of Chris's speech was held in Swedish.

Aletta and Chris had been secretly taking lessons for their first dance and they performed it magnificently to the delight of their friends and family. I noticed Chris's mum looked very proud as she saw her son gracefully guide his new bride across the dance floor in a routine that would have given them full points on Strictly Come Dancing.

Michelle & Steven's Wedding

Ceremony & Reception: Lanesborough Hotel, London.
Brides Wedding Dress: Emmanuelle Mota for Pronovias.
Brides Jewellery & Wedding Rings: David Morris.
Groom's Attire: Dior.
Flowers: Rob van Helden.

Michelle and Steven were married on Saturday at the magnificent Lanesborough Hotel.
Planning a wedding is never easy and you always hope you allow for the unexpected ..it was not expected that a 3,000 strong demonstration would block off the roads around Hyde Park Corner which would delay some guests arriving, but it turned out well and the ceremony was delayed just half an hour.

Three words best describe Michelle and Steven's wedding - Love, Emotion and Party.
They were surrounded by close friends and family that had come from all over the world and there were many emotional greetings and reunions, at the reception most of the many speeches began and ended in tears as their friends and family expressed their love for this happy couple.

The party mood started as soon as Michelle and Steven entered the reception doing a cool dance to Stevie Wonder's ''For once in my life'' it was a great entrance and the party later continued with everybody up on the dance floor dancing to some great music.

Wedding Cake Toppers

There is a wedding exhibition currently being shown at the Nordic Museum in Stockholm. It is a small exhibition but quite interesting, the theme is how wedding clothing and ceremonies have changed over the years.

One thing I learnt was that wedding dresses used to be black up until the early 1900's. The dress would be worn for weddings, christenings and funerals, however for weddings a bride would spruce it up with a white veil and white gloves. Only the very rich could afford special clothes just for weddings, they wore white formal clothing sewn from expensive imported fabrics with lots of embroidery.

A Long Journey

We are moving to London.
After a lot of planning it is now 'official' that we are moving to London. Our business remains exactly the same and all that changes is that we will fly in for our Swedish weddings instead of flying into London as we do today, we will still have our Stockholm office.

They say the longest journey begins with the first step ... in my case it was the first kilometre.
In preparing for our move to England I have just been over to the UK and brought a car and drove it the long way back to Sweden via France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Denmark.
It was a long 2 day drive of 2,140 kilometres (1,330 miles). The fun part was taking the car under the English Channel on the Euro Tunnel, the boring part was standing still on the German Autobahn in a traffic jam for 2 hours ... and the relief part was that my Volvo made it without any incidents.

Wedding Photojournalist Association

Just recently the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) announced the Q4 2008 competition results.

I am delighted in having been awarded 1st place in the Vendors category and also a 10th place in the same category.

Judges Comments: Different view of a routine part of a wedding. Another nice server picture. I like the angle and the architectural detail. The exposure picking up the available light in the two flanking rooms give this a nice three-dimensional quality.

Judges Comments: A rather grim group, but striking in it’s own way. It begs more questions than it answers, but I kept coming back to this photo because of its compelling nature. You want to know more, it intrigues us - or it does me anyway.

We had a great family result in this competition. Marianne is also delighted in receiving a top 10 winning shot in the children category followed up by a top 20 placing in the emotion category.

Judges Comments: I wish there was a caption to this picture, but I suppose I'm going to have to assume this is a moment before the wedding when these girls were being told how to stand with the bride at the altar. It's fun to imagine what is going on in the minds of these two. A glimpse into their future. Beautiful light and the informality of the rehearsal work really well together. The wedding dress also adds a piece of nice storytelling.
