A Royal Swedish Wedding

Today Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria announced her engagement to Daniel Westling, the wedding will be held early summer in 2010.

The sideshow shows Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt walking across the courtyard at Stockholm's Royal Palace having had a council with King Carl XVI Gustaf, shortly afterwards the wedding was announced.
Crowds and the press soon gathered outside the palace hoping to catch a glimpse ot Victoria and Daniel.

A card came today

A card came in the post today from Sophie and James who's wedding we photographed last August, their church wedding was held in Chislehurst, London and their reception was held at the beautiful Savile Club in Mayfair, London.

Dear Mark & Marianne

Firstly - apologies for such a delay in writing to you both - can you believe it is almost 6 months since our wedding.

We are thoroughly delighted with our gorgeous photographs.

You were both extremely professional leading up to and on the day itself. You made everyone feel relaxed in front of the camera, and you were very discreet therefore producing wonderfully relaxed, natural and creative photos of the day, and as we also have video footage we can see that the most perfectly posed & set photos were in fact taken in a millisecond of a move.

The blog allowed us to see a selection of the photos whilst on honeymoon - so we couldn't wait to see all the 400+ photo's when we returned!

Appearing in The London Paper was also a great memento of the day - thank you.

We have the most fantastic memories and photographs of our day - for which we are very grateful to you both. Keep in touch.

Love
Sophie & James x

Bridal Salon in Jessheim near Oslo

We are delighted to have received a photograph from Gry & Jørn who's wedding we photographed last year.
The photograph shows their large acrylic picture hanging on their lounge wall - this is part of our 'Show & Display' product range we offer our clients.

We love these contemporary acrylic pictures, black and white images look amazing - the image is printed directly to the back of the Acrylic, the whites become clear and out are picked out against a white backing acrylic which creates a feeling of depth. On the shelf are 2 smaller desktop acrylics.

We are also delighted to hear that Gry has now opened a Bridal Salon called Brudeperlen in Jessheim near Oslo.
Gry and partner Hilde were recently featured in the Norwegian wedding magazine Bryllupsmagasinet:

The Bridal salon is situated in Jessheim only 30 minutes from Oslo. With brands that have previously not been available in Norway they are hoping to attract customers from all over the eastern part of the country.

Brudeperlen (The Bridal Pearl) is a new type of Bridal salon, going for a new style in the bridal business. The owners, Gry Merete Haakensveen and Hilde Merete Heieren, did a lot of research prior to their own weddings, and they feel that they have a good understanding of the market.

"It was no easy task to find the perfect dress. The collections available in Norway had no distinctive character and few were unique. On your wedding day you really wish to look absolutely fantastic, and that is the reason why we have committed ourselves to dresses that have not been previously available in Norway and satisfies the quality we are looking for".

Two of the brands, Rosa Clara and Raimon Bundo are designed and produced in Spain, while the third brand, Augusta Jones, is English/American.
"We were looking for dresses with nice and simple cuts, but at the same time have the right choice of texture and details. We are very pleased with the choices we have made and are confident that our dresses have that little extra that brides wish for".

The Bridal salon has a simple and elegant style and it has made an effort to make each and every product clearly visible.
"It is not one the biggest Bridal salons you will come across, but our goal is not to be the most spacious. Instead we are seeking good quality and offering good service to customers looking for that special dress. Gradually we wish to expand by including social dresses into our assortment".

Jessheim is a rapidly growing town and during the past decade a vast amount of families and young couples have moved into the area.
"Jessheim has a great potential due to it's location in the central part of eastern Norway, also located close to Oslo's main airport, Gardermoen. Jessheim is easily accessed by train, bus or by car", say the pleased owners.

Canon or Nikon

Canon or Nikon?

As professional wedding photographers it is necessary for us to have the very best equipment available which is either the Nikon or Canon digital system.

Its not always easy deciding on which company to be with and to change systems is a major investment. I have used both and left Nikon for Canon 6 years ago as Canon were leading the field with their sensors in the Mark II cameras - at the time Nikon just could not compete with Canon.

That was until Nikon produced the D3 - a truly amazing camera - and perfect for wedding photography.
Its new sensor allows for photography in extremely dark situations and will produce clear and 'noise' free images, it allows us to work in the darkest of churches ... and there are many of those.

We have now both changed to Nikon and are using four D3 cameras and all the fast Nikon lenses.

All Nikon enthusiasts should visit London specialist Nikon dealers Grays of Westminster their wonderful shop is a Nikon Aladdin's cave.

Pubs and Risotto

Driving around my old home county of Somerset I was appalled to see in my old area 3 pubs that had been shut down due to a lack of business, I hear that 6 pubs a week are now closing down in the UK.
Its a shocking development, village pub life is the very fabric of English society and when the pubs are gone (and the Post Office/Village Shop) the soul and life of a village disappears.

Looking for lunch I came across The Pheasant Inn at Worth, Wookey. The hosts Luana & Roberto offer the best of Italian & English dishes and on the menu they had Risotto - it is years ago since I last ate a Risotto and it was really, really good.

Risotto alla Chiantigiana & Parma ham.
Classic ''chianti drowned'' Risotto, creamy with paté & Parmesan Cheese & Parma Ham.

The next day I was back in London. I was meeting future wedding couples over the weekend which we normally do in Kensington, Marianne and I have found a great pub The Devonshire Arms, 37 Marloes Road in Kensington which we are now starting to use as a local when we visit the area, to my delight I once again find Risotto on the menu.

Risotto.
With oyster and chestnut mushrooms, dolcelatte, spinach and shaved Parmesan.

I am defiantly a 'born again' Risotto eater.

Leaving London for Stockholm I flew out from Heathrow, the flight path took us straight over London.
We had the setting sun behind us which lit up the city - half of which was hidden behind a vertical wall of snow which stretched from the heavens straight down to the ground in a rolling mass that was moving forward covering everything in its path - it was a sight I shall always remember it looked like the end of the world and I was on the last flight out.
With that amount of snow falling on the city it has created complete chaos on the transport system.

Weddings and the Credit Crunch in the UK

According to today's Sunday Telegraph the recession may may have brought misery to many but 2009 has seen an increase in wedding bookings.
Venues and Registrars across the country have seen a dramatic increase in bookings, at the Westminster register office they had 1,457 weddings and civil partnerships during the whole of 2008 - they already have 776 bookings for 2009. In Liverpool they have seen a rise of 11 per cent compared with the same period in 2007.

The reason for this increase appears to be that in bad times people wish for stability in their lives and they look for security in relationships - The most popular date this year according to 'Hitched' is August the 1st.
