Iris & Marcus's Wedding
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Ceremony: Stadshuset, Stockholm.
Reception: Stallmästargården, Stockholm.
Iris and Marcus who live in London were married at the City Hall in Stockholm yesterday.
The City Hall has to be one of the finest buildings where civil services are held. Built in 1923 (with 8 million bricks) it stands next to lake Mälaren in the heart of the city and is one of Stockholm´s most popular tourist attractions - the walls in one of the largest halls are covered with 18.6 million mosaic pieces of glass and real gold, it is at the City Hall where the annual Nobel gala dinner is held.
We met up with Iris & Marcus on the grounds by the lake, we could see from a distance how happy and relaxed they were as they were being photographed by their immediate family and friends.
The civil service went well and they looked very happy. We had arranged to do an extended portrait session and we had good fun spending a couple of hours with them at a couple of locations in Stockholm - the weather was perfect with intermittent sun and clouds.
Lying on the ground photographing them as they were walking down an avenue lined with horse-chestnut trees I was reminded that Autumn was now with us by a conker falling on my head, the strange thing being (To Marianne's great amusement) was that it happened not once but twice.
We carried on into the Old Town and photographed them in the last of the sun in some of the beautiful alleyways between the 13th century buildings, in the main square Marcus lifted up Iris and kissed her - much to the delight of all the people sitting in the open air cafe bars that cheered them on and gave them a round of applause - it was good fun.
We left them before the reception started, Iris told us that duck cooked in 3 different ways was going to be served which sounded delightful. They have more celebrations to look forward to and will be having a 2nd service in Hong Kong in a couple of weeks time.

Christina & Mikael's Wedding
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Ceremony: Seglora Kyrka, Skansen, Stockholm.
Reception: Restaurant Ulla Winbladh, Stockholm.
Christina & Mikael were married yesterday at the beautiful Seglora Church.
The church was built in 1729 in the Seglora parish of Västergötland, in 1891 it was moved to Skansen - the oldest open air museum in the world.
Not surprisingly with its unique and fantastic setting Seglora Church is Sweden's most popular church for weddings, we have been there many times and it was nice to have met again Karin Strid the ever happy organist.
There were a lot of children at the wedding including Christina & Mikael's 6 children.
One of the younger daughters kept a look out for them as their guests walked past the small room in which they were waiting - when the guests were seated they left the small room and waited at the back of the church - Karin struck up The Bridal March from Wagner's 'Lohengrin' and the service began - led by the very cheerful Gunnar Stålklint.
It was a very nice warm family wedding, their children were involved in the day and helped with a lot of the duties, one of the boys Johan even played the guitar accompanied by their friends children Axel on the bass and Elin who sung.
We left them just as they were sitting down to dinner at the Restaurant Ulla Winbladh (Built in 1897) a great end to a great day.

Deborah & James |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
We just recently had our rehearsal with Deborah & James who will be getting married in London in January 2009.
The service will be held at St Nicholas Church in Chiswick which stands on the banks of the River Thames, where the church is built has been a place of worship for over a thousand years and is rich with history.
There are some notable people buried in the grounds such as William Hogarth, the celebrated painter and Henry Joy, the trumpeter who sounded the ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’, also William Hitch, a hero of the Battle of Rorke’s Drift who won a VC during the Zulu war.
The reception will be held at The Roebuck Pub in Chiswick - a nice modern spacious friendly pub with a large dining room. They have the premises to themselves and will be having 2 bands playing in the evening - its going to be fun and we are looking forward to it. |

Jun Yi & Mervin's Wedding |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Ceremony: Chinese Church, Hammersmith, London.
Reception: Hurlingham Club, Fulham, London.
Jun Yi and Mervin held their Singaporean-Malaysian wedding on Saturday at the Chinese Church in London.
The day before one London tabloid had the headline 'Monsoon Weather Warning' and it was terrible weather on the Friday and Saturday morning but luckily it cleared up in the afternoon and turned into a pleasant summer evening.
Dennis one of the Best Men held an impromptu prayer for Mervin in the back of the cab on the way to the church, it was rather special to witness this touching moment between 2 close friends, they and most of their friends and family are believers of the Christian faith.
There was a very strong feeling of love and friendship between all those in the congregation, the service was wonderful and was held by the Pastor Siew Huat Ong. It was amazing to see so many happy faces and to see and hear people sing in unison and with feeling, it was a memorable experience to have been part of it all.
Jun Yi and Mervin's guests were treated to some surprises at the reception.
Unknown to each other they had both been secretly rehearsing a song that they would sing to each other ... Mervin was shocked when Yun Yi took hold of a microphone and sung to him, when the applause had finished she was equally shocked when he asked her to sit down and he sung to her - backed up by his Best Men, it was good fun.
Jun Yi & Mervin then gave a co-ordinated theatrical dance, a routine that they had been practicing - their guests loved it, standing there taking the applause they looked at each other and you could tell that they are very much in love ... and loved by their family and friends.

WPJA Q2 Contest Results
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
The Q2 results of the WPJA contest have been announced and I was pleased to have had 3 images in 3 categories placed in the top 20.
JUDGES COMMENTS: This picture grew on me the more I looked at it. I wasn’t crazy about the big light at the doorway and the composition is not great, however fine under the circumstances. But the over the shoulder glance of the maid of honour to the bride as if to ask “are you ready good friend? Here we go,” speaks to the commitment of everyone involved in a wedding -- not just the bride and groom. It is a very nice moment.
