Alexandra & Martin

Today we had our rehearsal with Alexandra & Martin who live in London but will be having their English - Swedish wedding in Sweden.

We met with them at the 11th century Häringe Castle where they will be having their reception.
During the latter years a lot of eccentric owners have owned this castle and it has seen many parties and high society social events.

During the thirties the castle was owned by the son of the affluent Swedish family Kreuger - Thorsten Kreuger put his own style on the building by putting in a swimming pool in the garden and then making a slide to it from the bathroom window.

After he was convicted of fraud the castle was sold to his friend the founder of Electrolux Axel Wenner-Gren and his wife Marguerite.
The Wenner-Gren couple became well known for their magnificent parties with guests from all over the world such as Greta Garbo and Elisabeth Taylor.
Marguerite dismantled the slide to the pool but it is said she had wild deer living in the building and that they were allowed to walk around without hindrance.

There is a large painting of Marguerite hanging on the wall, when you walk around the room Marguerite's eyes follow you everywhere, the painting was given to her Mexican servant as a token of appreciation but he returned it to the castle as he did not like to have his former boss stare at him all the time.

We also went to the 13th century Sorunda church where they will be getting married, we met the Vicar (also called Martin) who was fantastic and very helpful to us in his understanding and appreciation of wedding photography.

Alexandra & Martin are going to have a great reception at the castle, the rooms and decorations are truly fantastic, there friends and family will have a great weekend .... we wonder if they will tell their guests about the ghost at the castle that doesn't like you sitting in his chair.

Henrik Larsson

Swedish football fans had reason to celebrate yesterday with the announcement that Henrik Larsson has been tempted out of retirement and will once again be joining the Swedish team in time for this year's Euro 2008 in Austria/Switzerland.

'Henke' is a great player and I have photographed him in many matches over the years including the World Championships Japan/Korea 2002 and Euro 2004 Portugal.

Sabina & Eric

Today we had our rehearsal with Sabina and Eric both from Switzerland but now living in London.
They will be getting married at the picturesque Djurö kyrka (1683) and will have their reception at Fagelbrohus.

Their travelling guests may think it strange and would be forgiven in wondering why there are model ships hanging from the church roof ... this is a common theme is Swedish churches built near the coast, they are known as 'Votivskepp' and are an expression of thanks for sailors rescued at sea - the ship called ''Nordstier'' to the right in the church was made in 1706 and the ship near the alter called ''Ragnar Harald'' was made around 1850 and was given to the church in 1927.

Sabina & Eric love Swedish summers - it may only be May but today felt like a real high summers day with clear blue skies and 25°, we had a nice afternoon together which included looking for locations for the bridal portraits.
We are looking forward to their wedding in August.

Kajsa Bergqvist

Yesterday I photographed one of Sweden's most successful woman athletes - former World #1 high jumper Kajsa Bergqvist.

Kajsa having now left her athletic career (Olympic Bronze & World Gold) has taken employment in marketing at a leading Swedish investment bank Carnegie.

It was nice to have met her again, I have closely followed Kajsa's career having photographed her at 4 World Championships: Athens 1997, Sevilla 1999, Edmonton 2001 and Helsinki 2005.

Assignment for Dagens Nyheter.

Gordon at Terminal 5

After a hectic few days back in London I was again at Heathrow - checking my mail this was in the inbox:

''I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a great big THANK YOU for taking such wonderful photos of my dear friends Åsa and David on their wedding day in March.
It was also an absolute pleasure to meet you a couple of days before together with Åsa. I have been to many a wedding and have met with many wedding photographers, but NONE have done what you did. And that is to be ''invisible '' during the evening although so very evidently there. Åsa and David's wedding was truly magical and I just wanted to express my thanks to you both for your excellent work''.

With kindest regards,
Lotta - Las Vegas (Toast Madam at the Foster wedding)

That was just ... so nice, it really made my day.

BA may have messed it up with the lost luggage scandal in the first week of opening but Terminal 5 the new home for British Airways at Heathrow is absolutely fantastic !! and has to be one of the worlds best - lots of space and fantastic architecture - walking to the gate for my Stockholm flight all to late I saw that my food hero Gordon Ramsay has a restaurant there!
We will be using this terminal about 20 times during 2008 so sooner or later there is defiantly going to be a visit at Gordon's and his plane food.

Spring is in the air

Finally Spring has arrived in Sweden, bonfires were lit all over the country to celebrate 'Walpurgis Night' a tradition held since the 8th century. For Stockholm its Spring when the cherry trees bloom in the city centre.
