Åsa & David's Wedding

Åsa and David had their English-Swedish wedding yesterday in Stockholm, the ceremony was held at Seglora Church, the reception was held at Högloftet also at Skansen.

It was a cold damp day with a slight drizzle - yet a day with great outdoor light, the soft tones available on a grey cloudy day work well for portrait lighting.

Åsa was beautiful, during our portrait session at the city hall tourists appeared and started taking her picture.

Their wedding had mixed English and Swedish wedding traditions and they decided to do the Swedish tradition of walking down the aisle together.
Whilst they were waiting to make their entrance late guests kept arriving, they didn't want to be seen so they kept darting in and out of a large storage room waiting for them to go by ... on the third time around all the guests were in place and having taken on the roll of official lookout I gave them the all clear.

The service went well and at the reception their English guests were treated to some Swedish culinary delights such as:
Juniper grilled filet of reindeer with chanterelle cream, sweetened lingon berries, ragout of root vegetables and Västerbotten cheese pure´.

This special day is now behind them and their new life together gets a great start with a honeymoon in the Maldives.

Åsa & David

It was one of those drab days in Stockholm today, we were waiting in the rain outside the Seglora church for Åsa to go through our rehearsal, Åsa arrived like a ray of sunshine - brides to be always seem to have this glow around them.

The Seglora church at Skansen is Sweden's most popular church to get married in, this year there will have around 80 marriages, there are also many civil ceremonies held in 4 other locations on the grounds of this large open-air museum.

Åsa wanted to check out the ' Dreaded Threshold ' in the church.

In the dark entrance to the church is a 30cm high timber threshold that runs across the floor in the doorway - it is difficult to see it and brides have to step over it as they start their walk down the aisle .. not all brides remember to do this and some have not quite made the graceful entrance they had always dreamed of.

We will be back this Saturday for their wedding.

WPJA Contest results

The highly acclaimed Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) contest results were announced today, I was delighted in receiving 1st prize in the category: Transportation, and also having a picture placed in the top 12 in the category: Reflections.

JUDGES COMMENTS: I like that the bride is running the show in this photo. The husband plays a great second fiddle to the bride. I like that she has the confidence to fix her hair while driving a bus.
Love this. Very funny. It works in spite of the fish eye lens.

JUDGES COMMENTS: A good reaction from both the woman and the bride. The available light is perfect for the situation, well framed.
I wanted this one to work badly. And it does, with the expression and the traditional costume involved. Too much dead area in the middle of the frame hurts, but I kept turning to the older woman's face, and the traditional crockery on the wall, and it won me over.
