Kristina & Michael's Swedish winter wedding

Kristina & Michael were married yesterday at Siljansnäs Church, their reception was held at Åkerblads Hotel in Tällberg.
They could not have wished for better weather on their late December Swedish winter wedding - It was cold -11°c yet the sun shone out of a clear blue sky and all the trees were covered in that fantastic beautiful frost known as ''Hoar Frost'' Rimfrost in Swedish.

Their guests from the USA and Sweden were treated to some some great music in the church, Kristina & Michael walked down the aisle behind some local traditional fiddlers and after the ceremony they left to the dramatic tones of 'Hallelujah' from the church choir in the gallery - wow, just great! - leaving the church they walked through a row of torches held by family and friends.

Their day continued at the Åkerblads Hotel which dates back to the 15th century (fantastic friendly staff), at the dinner there were many fine speeches held for this lovely couple, we left them when they had cut the cake and hit the dance floor.

WPJA Awards

I was delighted today to be notified that one of my images has won 1st place in the quarterly awards announced by the highly acclaimed Wedding Photojournalist Association WPJA. [ Link ]
What made this award even more special was that it is my favorite image taken this year, Kristofer was waiting at the church for his bride who at that point was 45 minutes late in arriving.

JUDGES COMMENTS: I love the expression in every face. this photo really catches the anxiety of the moment. it could have been a little looser around the edges, its a little tight - but it is one of my favorites.
I like the brooding quality of this picture. This is why you have to sit through the boring periods, and the silent ones, when clicking the shutter can feel like a bomb going off. But as my dad says, boredom is one of highest states. This quiet moment that is filled with anticipation and anxiety was worth waiting for.

We are also delighted with Marianne having 2 images highly placed in the category 'Bride getting ready'

JUDGES COMMENTS: Well-composed moment with good light. Her posture, expression and her dress along with the bag text create the feeling of a bride unsure of her next step, exhausted and that the wedding is over and life begins.

I also had an image placed in the category 'First dance'.

Katrine & Olve's Wedding

I photographed today Katrine & Olve's civil wedding in Stockholm.
This nice shot of Katrine looks like a studio image but was in fact taken outdoors in the worst possible conditions - extremely cold, strong winds and torrential rain ... also the winter light was falling fast.
We had planned on doing the portraits in the Old Town but changed the location to the city hall where we could be under a roof.

Katrine & Olve are a great easy going couple and despite the miserable weather conditions we had some fun.
Stockholm is a favorite location of theirs and it was here some 5 years ago they had a romantic weekend, they are now staying at the same hotel again ... and even in the same room.

Their ceremony was held at the Norwegian Embassy in Stockholm, I also witnessed their marriage certificate which was cool and something I have never done before.
